The Insect Diversity "Mini-Beast" Safari

The McKaig Nature Education Center is pleased to announce a special collaborative event with Insectopia. Join us on Saturday, May 23rd, for an expert-led guided walk exploring the fascinating world of invertebrates within our 94-acre preserve.

We are thrilled to host HM Brower, a professional Invertebrate Educator, who will lead participants through McKaig’s diverse meadows and woodlands to observe our local insect populations in their natural habitats.

Program Highlights:

  • Field Exploration: Identify the diverse species that play critical roles in our local ecosystem, from pollinators to forest decomposers.

  • Expert Instruction: Learn directly from HM Brower about insect adaptations, lifecycles, and the importance of biodiversity.

  • Spot the "McKaig’s Flying Tigers": the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, one of Pennsylvania's most iconic and beautiful native butterflies

  • Saturday, May 23, 2026, 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM  Meet in the parking lot of Roberts Elementary School on Croton Rd.
  • This program is designed to provide a high-quality, educational outdoor experience for families and nature enthusiasts alike.
