About this event
New Moon Night Hike: A Dark Adventure
Dare to venture into the night?
Join us for a unique nighttime experience at McKaig Nature Center. On one of the darkest nights of the year, we'll embark on a flashlight-free hike through the woods.
What to Expect:
- Near-Pitch Black Exploration: Navigate the trails illuminated only by the faint glow of a crescent moon.
- Celestial Spectacle: Witness a rare alignment of planets - Mars, Jupiter, a sliver of the Moon, Venus, and Saturn - visible to the naked eye.
- Telescopic Viewing: Catch a glimpse of Neptune and Uranus only through a telescope - not provided.
Important Details:
- Meeting Point: Roberts Elementary School parking lot near the Croton Road trailhead 6pm.
- Donation: A $7 per person donation to McKaig Nature Center is requested. (Cash or Venmo at event)
- Safety First: While we encourage a flashlight-free experience, bring a red headlamp or flashlight as a precaution.
- Preparation: Dress for the weather and be ready for a 1.3-mile hike on uneven terrain.
- Registration: Pre-registration and a signed waiver are required.
Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to connect with nature in a whole new way.
